Suggestion on unix installation scripts

While I understand the utility of symbolic links...

You might consider updating the unix installation process to use some different scripting/directory renaming/or other approach during installation so that the unix installs can complete correctly when installed on a mounted filesystem that does not support symlinks. Like exfat for example.

This would save having to reformat external drives, allowing the system hardware to be moved around.

Just a thought.

You should be installing the DVR software on the internal OS drive. Then configure it to store recordings on your external. The external can be formatted however you want, but the internal drive requires several POSIX features including mmap, flock, and symlinks.

You can move your external to another computer because it contains backups of all your data alongside your recordings.
