Summertime travel DirecTV Streaming

A bit off-topic I'm sure but I will be traveling for maybe 2 months this summer and I'd like to know if there's a Streaming Appliance that if I used DirecTV Streaming that would allow me to get my home/billing address zip code 'locals'?

I use an older AppleTV for traveling as the client. I also have a travel router with VPN. I set it for my home state, connect the AppleTV to hotel/resort TV and tune into my own home Channels DVR setup. I get all home local channels etc. I also have a NAS drive so all my recordings & movies are a click away.

I have no intention of using my home networked Channels DVR. I want to use only DirecTV Streaming app on some sort of appliance if there's one that would allow that.

Yeah, pretty much any tv client device will work. Anything you can watch DirecTV Streaming on at home. But if you want to tune into your home locale you may need to install a VPN on that device. You can pick up a cheap Chromecast or other device for your travels, or unplug a client device from one of your TVs at home to take on the road.

I'm not entirely sure if DirecTV Streaming checks your IP address so you may be okay just logging in like normal. You may not need a VPN. Either do some searching on that specifically or give it a try on your next trip(?).

Go with a Firestick and you'll be good. When I travel, I use a Firestick for my home locals but switch to iPhone/ipad for area locals.

Most locals are geofenced to some degree, and some are unavailable when using the streaming app. For example, my home market is Los Angeles, but the only locals available via the DirecTV app are NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, and PBS. KTLA is completely unavailable. When streaming from a different market, I (generally) have access to those same LA-market stations, in addition to the local stations from wherever I am using the app.

A couple of caveats, though. Sporting events are sometimes blacked out, and not all recordings made from your home DVR are allowed to be streamed. Also, you will find that certain other channels are completely unavailable to be streamed, not just certain locals.

I know this isn't what the OP was asking about, but this is exactly why when I travel I access my own Channels DVR from my house - - I get ALL local home channels, ALL channels from all sources I've added into my guide (I actually have 4 different sources all collating into one single guide in Channels), and of course access to ALL of my recordings. I can and have done this from other countries, no problem at all. It's as if I'm sitting on my couch at home no matter where I am.

Any Firestick or particular model(s). I've never used/owned a Firestick but if it would be a solution I'd probably invest.

Any will probably work. I use the 4K & the 4K Max as well as several older models without any issue.
