I just installed the Android TV version on my Shield. It seems to work fine but I noticed that the surround sound doesn’t kick in when I turn it on in the settings. I played the same feed in the HDHomerun app and I get surround sound so I know the feed is 5.1. The feed I tested with was coming from my Connect (I also have a Dual and an Extend).
How are you determining that it’s not working?
We currently don’t use passthrough, so the Dolby light on your receiver won’t light up but it will still receive 5.1 audio.
This is why, if your sound device doesn’t support PCM 5.1, you are shit out of luck.
We are working on adding bitstream passthrough support to the Android and FireTV apps.

I suppose it’s not working as there is no sound coming from the center speaker (stereo only). I don’t have a Dolby light on my receiver to confirm this. When I use the HDHomerun app I get sound coming from all my speakers. But I do remember something I read about the Shield and a lack of AC3 decoder provided by Nvidia. So probably, it’s working because of passthough in HDhomerun app. If you’re not there yet in your roadmap it’s fine. I realize this is a new release. I just wanted to relay the information from the field. With android, the hardware is more diverse than in the apple world so each device might react differently. I’ve been watching TV in Channels since I got it this morning and so far no glitches. I’ve tried many things to date and Channels looks promising. Keep up the good work.
I’ve added surround sound passthrough support to the latest beta build. It seems to work on my SHIELD. If you’ve purchased the app, you can opt-in via https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.getchannels.app
Please try it out and let me know if it works as you expect.
Is there any way to know what is new in the Beta releases? I installed the latest beta, but could not figure out what was different from the previous release, until I read this post.
I think there’s a way for us to publish notes with the beta. I’ll take a look for future releases.

I have my Shield TV hooked up to a Denon amp. The indicator panel on the Denon shows Dolby when I playback a recording. This is the same as when I have passthrough audio from Kodi etc.
I’ve just tested the beta build on my Shield and it works. Thanks for the quick turnaround.
The latest beta fixes some bugs with surround sound passthrough. It’s now working very well, and will be published to the Store version next week.
I am having an issue with channels freezing when surround sound is on. I submitted my logs.
I’ve uploaded v1.0.6 to the Play Store with a fix.
