Is it a matter of just replacing the device and everything will work?
You need to run a channel scan and assign a guide location to the new device in order for the DVR to use it for recording. But that's all.
Use both. I have 8 tuners now becuase I kept my old hdhr

True. If there is no physical reason for removing an old tuner (such as a fried mobo), why not just add your new tuner as your primary, and keep your old one around as a secondary/overflow?!
Yeah it worked out for me. My atsc 3 signals are low and the regular 1.0 stations are very hot. So I attenuate the old HDHR about 12db and leave the 3.0 tuner as is 
I was under the impression ATSC 3.0 had better signal
Generally they do but in my market they are hosting the 3.0 stuff on a lower power translator.
