SyFy 6055 - Connection Lost

I was not specifically saying something was wrong within your home network. Your network includes your connection to the internet through your ISP; perhaps they are having issues with their gateways/routers.

I also indicated the issue could be with the network's website.

504 Gateway Time-out seems to indicate it's a "them" problem, not a "you" problem.

Of course, your logs may show something different; but without sharing them all anyone can do is guess as how to help you.

Definitely working

So mine says…

Error during live stream for ch6055 SYFYP: astits: fetching next packet failed: astits: fetching next packet from buffer failed: astits: reading 188 bytes failed: hls: temporary failure while downloading

I’m gonna reboot my spectrum modem and nighthawk router. I can’t wait for fiber to be installed next summer.

Still happening for the same error message and reason

Something has to be going on outside my control.

Try faster dns? Can’t hurt.

Channels could not download the next part of the stream, so it closed the connection.

Often this could be the result of CDNs re-routing the requests. A good way to check this is to ensure you are using your ISP-provided DNS servers, and that you are not using any VPNs or other filtering software (such as Pi-Hole) on your home network. Setting things to their defaults can often remedy this issue.

Thanks. I am using everything as I’ve always used it. I’ve never changed the dns settings.

All I can offer is to try it on their website and see if it works without issues. If there are errors there, then that would likely confirm the issue is theirs.

Ok so little test I did here. I put the same channel, Syfy, on my Apple TV connected to my home Spectrum internet and on my iPhone 14 ProMax on AT&T FirstNet LTE both showed connection lost at the sage time so the issue is with the networks stream or channels

Tested both my iPhone and AppleTV on my home network. AppleTV using Channels, and iPhone using the Syfy app. The iPhone continued to play when Channels went Connection Lost. So this tells me that the issue is definitely with Channels and not my internet or network.

Channels uses the website for its source; the app uses NBCU's own internal infrastructure. They are not the same.

Yeah I think its most probably a dns issue. I had similar probs where for 'no apparent reason' streams would dropout. Changing the DNS fixed it, especially relevant if you have a non standard setup

I did go into my routers settings and changed the DNS to Googles (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) but have the same issue.

Any thoughts how to fix this? Maybe a developer can chime in with some input? Lots of things I’d like to watch for Halloween and can’t.

Can you watch reliably on nbc.com/live ?

This looks like a bug. I’ll look into it.

Yes works great. Played Syfy on my laptop from nbc.com/live and Syfy on my iPhone. The iPhone quickly got connection lost while video continued on my laptop just fine.

The way TVE Streams work, would the bug be specific to Syfyp or could it effect any of TVE streams.

I've fixed the error message so that it is more accurate going forward. It looks like you were running into a HLS segment for an ad that was returning 404 Not Found. Unfortunately there wasn't anything we could have done to overcome that other than restarting the stream.
