Probably an odd question, but is there a way to sync the streams for multiple extenders (nvidia shields to be exact). Occasionally my wife is watching new in the kitchen while cooking dinner and my daughter comes in to the living room to watch the news. Typically there's an echo as one is slightly ahead of the other (.5 to 1.5 seconds usually) when you are sitting at the breakfast table area.
The client devices are streaming independently from the Channels DVR source. There is no function to keep their playback in sync. There are lots of technical variables and roadblocks involved, and that's a tall ask. I doubt Channels (or any developer, or any streaming service for that matter) would be interested or able to pull something like that off anytime soon. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, though.
This was done for a music streaming product I use, but the developer did that by creating a virtual group of endpoints that the server sees as one client. And even then, that only keeps the streams in sync at the endpoints.
There may still be a perceived echo due to distance and reflections. Adjusting for that would require further custom development, creating the kind of software used to balance a surround sound system while placing a test microphone at each seat in the room. Except in your case the mic would have to be attached to an laptop and get moved around the house.
I can't imagine there's enough call for all that from Channels DVR customers, but we can hope. The developer who created that group feature for the music system (LMS/Squeezebox) is a volunteer though.
Thanks all, I knew if was a long-shot, but you don't know unless you ask. I'd happily volunteer if I knew what I was doing, but that's not the case, so I'll leave it at that.
