Synology DS218+ and WD Red HDDs. Adequate for HDHomeRun Connect Duo?

I’m about to purchase a Synology DS218+ and two WD Red drives. I just wanted to make sure that there are no issues using this setup with an HDHomeRun Connect Duo and Channels on my ATV.

Should work well. Just note that the DVR is not able to transcode video for remote viewing on that model. This may change next year as technically the hardware is capable of transcoding.

Channels works fine on my ATV on my fast LAN using the Channels server on my iMac. Will it still work without being transcoded by replacing the iMac with the DS218+? Will I also be able to view live TV and watch recorded video on the iOS apps?

Yes, for in-Home viewing the experience will be the same. Transcoding is only used for away-from-Home streaming.

Is this model (Synology DS218+) capable of transcoding now? I’ve seen a couple of posts that said it works great for them. Outside the house…

Yes, any NAS with an Intel CPU can transcode.
