Synology NAS Recommendation Please

From a search it seems as though I should purchase one of the plus models, but which one? Requirements:

  • Must be able to easily handle a minimum of two concurrent remote streams.
  • Snappy performance.

Also, how much memory should I get? Is 4 GB adequate or should I get 8 GB? I would just go with 8 GB but it appears that is backordered, at least on Amazon. Or should/can I just add after market memory?

Thanks in advance for advice.

I am using a DS220+ and very happy with it. I have a total of 10Gb memory. I added an A-Tech 8GB DDR4 SODIMM with no issues (even though its not officially supported). Plus it is mind bogglingly cheap at $24. So if you don't wanna wait on a back order but want more memory I would buy the 4gb and add more memory yourself. But in answer to your root question. 4gb should be plenty fine for just a ChannelsDVR server with the minimum you are hoping for.

I've got 3 Synology NAS at 3 different houses setup. The DS220J, DS220+, DS1520+. I also setup a friend on a RPi version. All work well and no complaints. I agree with Absenm, the DS220+ is a great option. I think your "snapiness" will be more largely dependent on your app based hardware. I have Amazons Firesticks from several years ago that have some laginess to them to NVidia Shields which are smooth as butter, as well as the Google Chromecast and Walmart ONN. If Shields were cheaper I would say them, but I've leaned more towards the Google devices of late, though I am about to replace all the Amazon Firestick at my moms house with ONN devices as she's on a budget.

Looking at the website specs it says the DS220+ it is capable of a total of 6 GB memory? Thanks

The DS220+ is a solid solution.
I bought mine on Amazon and haven't looked back.

It’s capable of more. Again not officially supported, but I can confirm it will take the 8gb chip I linked to and gives you a total of 10gb with the built in 2gb. Unsupported.
