Tailscale question

When I use Tailscale in the Channels settings, does it expose my entire host system? Or just Channels. Like could SMB files be reached through this Tailscale instance?

I'm asking because I run Channels on my Windows Server which has a bunch of other stuff I'd like to keep secure

It only exposes Channels DVR Server.

Is there any difference between using Tailscale built into Channels or putting the Tailscale application on an Apple TV and connecting that way?

You will have to have tailscale on any device you want to use the VPN on. It has to be on the server and clients to use the tailnet.

I kind of messed up that question. If the computer I have the DVR running on is part of my Tailscale network and I have subnet routing setup so I can access all my network devices and I take an Apple TV with me on a trip does it matter if I use the built in Tailscale or the one running on the devices?

I have never tried this so curious for an upcoming trip. I also see that the version of Tailscale built into the DVR is a few versions behind the one that I run directly on that computer.

No, you should either have Tailscale turned on in Channels DVR Server, or Tailscale installed on your host.

There’s no need to have both.
