Tailscale vs redirect?

I understand we have tailscale for joining devices together and have set it up. However, at least for Fire TV devices, if the power goes off, then tailscale has to be re-enabled.

Not totally great when 100s of miles away (i Airbnb and stream the content over - having 6 primes).. and have to talk people into resetting it up

Is there a way to use something like redirect or no-ip on ChannelsDVR, as an alternative?

Personally, I prefer to install Tailscale as a https://pfsense.org firewall package on a low power Mini PC from https://protectli.com. Put the firewall on a UPS and set to automatically boot upon power restore. Just remember to disable key expiration and do not use ephemeral keys. Works automagically!

The advantage is it allows you to access any IP device on your home network, not just devices with the Tailscale client installed.

Great suggestion.

But that's a very involved setup and for joining different homes, might not be great for security reasons to open up a whole set of devices to a network .. for example, IoT devices should never have access to your network

I understand Channels automatically updated the DNS to get my.channelsdvr.net address to work. I wonder if we can manually set this, ala Plex and Emby.. using a redirect service like NO-IP, or if there is future plans to add this feature
