None of the streaming services I use offered the Super Bowl in 5.1 audio so used Channels with TV Everywhere with my local cable provider. Worked like a charm. Thank you Channels!
Which area were you in that the TVE feed was in 5.1?
Philadelphia
wow, hopefully that is a harbinger of things to come!
Yes indeed, was pleasantly surprised, looked and sounded great.
Not to be a hater here but did you try and record it and look at the details in channels? I'm pretty sure the tve feed is national and audio is 2.0 but I could be wrong. My tve sounds great and appears to be 5.1 but it's my marantz doing 5.1 virtual (sounds great enough for me but isn't true 5.1)
I’d like to know too
Worked for a major national broadcast group. Each local station in a market provides a feed to cable or OTT providers or the providers take it off air. We always provide 5.1 audio. The provider encodes it at lower bit rates. They can decide the best way to handle audio. Since most devices only have stereo, most only encoded stereo. They also can save on encoder licenses by only providing stereo.
I’m my experience, local affiliates will pick this route every time.
