Transfer channels TVOS settings to different apple tv

Im not sure if there is already a way to do this.

Yesterday i had to wipe out and reset my apple tv from scratch.
Aka a “nuke and pave”.

apple tv has the option to save settings via icloud, which i had done in the past.

As expected, after the apple tv restored itself to factory defaults, it then brought back all my apps, including channels dvr. (I had to reinstall the beta via testflight - no big deal.)

Unfortunately it appears that when apple reinstalled the channels app after the factory reset, all my local channels settings on the apple TV were trashed and channels was set to its default app settings. In the past i have been able to delete the channels app and its settings were preserved.

However, in this case, I had to go back and manually set up experimental drivers, remote shortcuts, guide views, etc. This isnt too big a deal, but there were several settings that i forgot where they were in the channels app setup menus. So its taken me a while to resurrect my system.

Would it make sense to have a “save settings” menu in the channels app?

If there were an import function, you could also transfer settings to a new apple tv

That’s what client setting on the server are for. Not all settings are there but most of them.

Because you didn't wipe the system.

Channels is multi-platform software, this would only solve it for that platform.

We decided on the Server Side Settings approach instead and it works incredibly well. Drop a new client on your network, and boom, it gets all the settings without you having to do a single thing. Want to change 1 thing for all your clients, just make the change in Channels DVR Server. Want 1 device to have different settings, just override the settings in its client settings on the server.

This is the way.

Thanks to all!!

A BIG duuhhhh with fist shake - at myself.

Ive used the global client server side settings for channels collections often. Never had to use it for anything else. Since my apple tv has been so robust until recently ive never had to wipe it and discover all my personal tweaks to the settings removed.

Now they are hopefully all stored on my server where they belong.

Awesome.
