Tricks To Moving The DVR To A New Host?

Hi All,

Tomorrow I’ll be receiving a Synology DS218+ NAS, at which time I’ll be wanting to move the Channels DVR host from my Linux server, which I’ve used as a test bed, to the Synology NAS.

There’s little content on the current host. Nothing I need save. So, any gotchas in doing this, or just shut down the old and start the new?

I’ve seen mention of a “restore” function. Does this somehow involve copying all from …/data in the current DVR to …/data in the new, then running a “restore” option of some kind? Is there a FAQ, HowTo or something, somewhere?

The new DVR host will, naturally, have a new IP address and hostname. And the storage locations for everything will no doubt change.

TIA!

Moving the data directory is not required.

Simply move your DVR directory (containing TV, Movies, Database, Images, etc) to the new host and then use http://IP:8089/restore to import the existing data.

The Database folder contains recent backups of your data/*.db and can be imported via the restore tool. Guide databases will be recreated from scratch via guide download.

Move them into the directory in which I want them to exist on the new host, or into a temporary/transitional space?

I get that additional channel the same way I did on my Linux box? I imagine I’d have to ssh in to do that?

Final destination.

Custom lineups will be transferred via the backup. You can make other changes by using curl on any host but with the IP of your NAS.
