Trouble with adding second USB to Raspberry PI

I am running Channels on the Raspberry Pi latest version (2021.1101.2046) and server version (2024.03.27.1935) using an attached USB drive. I am trying to add another drive to the second USB 3.0 port. When I connect the drive, the server recognizes it but will lock up after about 2 minutes. Power cycling doesn't help. I have to disconnect the drive and reboot to get the server back.

I tried checking the drive (WD 4TB) for errors, but there were none. I formatted the drive to exFAT, but same result.

Are you connecting it via a powered hub or powered enclosure?

I'm connecting the USB drive (WD easystore) directly to the Raspberry Pi's USB 3.0 port. So I have two drives: one 2TB drive with OS, and this is the second drive (4TB) with additional media

Try powered USB hub

Powered USB hub worked, thanks!
