Troubleshooting WiFi vs. Antenna signal

I have the HDHomeRun Connect on my network, and use wi-fi to send the signal to my AppleTV/Channels App.

Sometimes, I get very poor reception from the Channels app. I’ve used the HDHomerun signal meter, the signal strength is usually high 80s/low 90s, the strength and symbol quality are usually high 90s, but my network rate fluctuates.

Am I correct in assuming this is a wi-fi/network signal issue rather than an antenna issue?

Yes sounds like a network issue. What kind of router are you using?

I have a TP Link Archer C7 router. I configured a 5GhZ channel just for the Apple TV to use, and a dedicated IP address for the apple tv as well.

Do you know what wifi standard it supports?

It supports 802.11ac, I believe 802.11n also.

Try to hardwire the apple tv just to see. Also, I had issues because I installed the HDHomerun tools on my mac, and it was polling my tuner every 10 minutes to get data from it for the DVR service (which i didn’t have/want). I disabled that as well, thinking that it was causing my drops at about every 10 minutes.

Definitely recommend trying Ethernet if you can, just to rule out the antenna or HDHomeRun as a problem.

You can also try another free app like InstaTV Pro or VLC to see if they have the same issues.
