Total truenas noob here. Been looking for a tutorial on the complete setup after the plugin is installed. I'm getting in searches that I have to have users, groups, shares, dhcp or maybe not.... its just not clicking with me. When I try to access channels through the web interface on my home network it says it can't be reached but I can log into truenas(root). I have att fiber internet and using their router. Any help would be appreciated or if I could be pointed in the right direction.
There is no documentation and a many threads that you will need to piece together . I'm a very experienced IT worker and stopped wasting my time. Instead I installed a Windows 10 VM (you could use Linux) and use the VM as my server. My video files are stored on TrueNAS and shared via SMB.
Good luck

Ps. This is the single largest problem with Channels DVR. The documentation is very out of date and while the effort has been made for the server to run on many platforms, the lack of documentation is frustrating, time wasting and probably causes many to move on.
You may want to check the forums for references to FreeBSD (the base OS), iocage or jail (the technology used for installing apps/packages in TrueNAS Core), or FreeNAS (the project name before they consolidated everything).
There have been several threads in the past discussing this.
(Also remember, TrueNAS Core is quite different from TrueNAS SCALE. Core is FreeBSD–based, and SCALE is Linux–based; on the surface they look the same, but they are very different underneath.)
Well I saw the hint of advice and just Installed unbuntu server. With limited command line skill I was able to get my server up and "running" and channels installed and "running" in about 45 min. I still have not figured out how to find or mount my second hdd which is 6tb for storage and the reason for "running" lol. It's been a good 6 years since I really messed around with Linux but enjoying the adventure.
I scoured the bsd forums for a bit and I just wasn't getting it. Seemed like when I got a lead it was to take two steps back. Actually ended up blocking or deleting my ip address in one instance lol. I just installed unbuntu server and everything is good with the exception of finding my storage hdd lol
Thanks guys for the replies
