Tuner Not Available even when it should be

DVR has failed to record ‘How to get away with murder’ for the last few weeks. It is getting away from being recorded, wife may kill me.

Night of recording, checked it was scheduled and planned to record without conflict.
Came back after show started, saw it wasn’t recording

  1. Tried to record from guide: “tuner not available”
  2. Confirmed only one other show was recording (NFL, lower priority)
  3. Went to live TV, saw the show playing.
    At some point tried to record (from guide?) and got “tuner not available”
  4. Stopped NFL recording (2 tuners available, nothing recording)
  5. Went to live TV, recorded from the show.

Nothing actually recorded.

Please advise

There is a setting to turn on tuner sharing. But you would need to be watching the same channel that is scheduled to record in order to share the tuner.

Otherwise, you could get a second HDHR for more tuners, or replace the one you have with a 4-tuner Quatro

Where is that setting? I’ve looked based on another response, but don’t see it.

I’m unclear how the two tuners I already have were in use. As far as I can tell by step 5 only 1 was in use for live TV, I don’t see why nothing recorded. At the minimum I should have been told it wasn’t going to record.

Please go to the Log tab of the DVR and see what it says from the time the recording was supposed to happens.

you were watching TV + recording NFL = 2 tuners. Then trying to record yet another show = no more tuners.
