I have two tuners, one is currently recording a show. I start watching a show in the On Now section, then I press back and swipe to the guide and select a show. I get a “Tuner Not Available” error.
Check your hdhomerun web interface to see what the tuners are doing.
I’ll try again and check but the strange thing is if I changed my order of operations it wouldn’t happen. It’s like channels kept the tuner in progress while I was in the guide because I was in the on now area and hit back almost like it was playing in the background.
Ok I played with this some more, the problem is not with the guide vs on now. The problem is recording a program on 2.1 (HD) and then trying to watch on 2.2 (HD). 2.2 won’t tune in no matter what I do.
I went into the HDHomeRun web tuner status and it shows
Tuner 0 Channel 647.000 MHz
Tuner 1 Channel none
Then when I try to watch 2.2 it shows (for a second)
Tuner 0 Channel 647.000 MHz
Tuner 1 Channel 647.000 MHz
Then I get a Tuner Not Available error and it goes back to
Tuner 0 Channel 647.000 MHz
Tuner 1 Channel none
I just discovered something else, if I try to “Watch Now” on channel 2.1 I get the Tuner Not Available error on 2.1 as well (and the hdhomerun web status looks exactly the same, same frequencies, etc.). Watch from the beginning works fine.
Strange. Maybe the signal is not strong enough? Not really sure as it seems to be happening on the HDHR side.
You could try asking on the SD forums or [email protected]
Hmmm, the signal strength seems good, here’s what I got from hdhomerun_config:
2.1 HD
ch=8vsb:647000000 lock=8vsb ss=100 snq=90 seq=100 bps=10180576 pps=967
2.2 HD
ch=8vsb:647000000 lock=8vsb ss=100 snq=85 seq=100 bps=5217376 pps=496
I wonder if the problem is related to the fact that 2.1 and 2.2 are showing as HD but the callsign for 2.2 is KATU-SD. After looking into it some more, it appears 2.1 and 2.2 are 720p. Maybe this is causing the issue? I can tune to any other channel when 2.1 or 2.2 is recording, including 2.3 (SD). If I am recording 2.1 I can’t tune into 2.2 and if I’m recording 2.2 I can’t tune into 2.1.
I found an issue while playing with this. If I tune into a channel, then swipe up to start recording a show I’m already watching, Channels uses both tuners. Similarly, if I select “watch now” on a program already in progress, it uses two tuners. Maybe this could be improved to only use one tuner in the future?
I am having either the same or similar problem, keep getting “Tuner not available”. Per the messages in this thread, I attached to the web interface on my HDHomeRun Extend and viewed the logs - this seems to be the root of the problem that I am having: “HTTP: rejecting request from xxx.xxx.xxx.xx - no video data”. That might seem to be a “Duh!” for many users, and I am not technically-inept, however, I know there are two tuners in the box and “Tuner not available”, to me, anyway, sounds like those two tuners are “allocated” to other tasks and there is not one available for the channel I just selected.
So my problem is I need a better antennae. After setting up Channels with my HDHR, I move some equipment around which changed how the signals bounce in the room and left quite a few channels untunable. It would help (me) A LOT if the message for this situation were changed to “Cannot receive channel” or “Signal not found - check antennae” or something that is not ambiguous.
