Tuner Sharing doesn't work with multiple HDHR?

I have noticed quite a bit that even though I have Tuner Sharing enabled on all of my devices, it will sometimes eat 2 tuners instead of just 1 when watching the same channel.

For example I have 3 devices all watching 106.1 (ATSC3) and Channels is using 2 tuners (1 from HDHR #1 and 1 from HDHR #2). I have 2 HDHR each with 2 ATSC3 tuners in each.

This happens fairly often!

The tuner priority needs to match on all the devices

I never thought about that. I will make sure they all are. Thanks!

Ok so I triple checked today at my other house. I have 3 channels dvr devices over there (onn 4k Streaming boxes). All are set to the same tuner priority. Right now 2 of the devices are tuned into the same ATSC3 station, however 1 tuner slot is being used on each of my 2 HDHR's! Something else is causing more than 1 slot to be used by the same station!

It's remuxing means either not at home or not set to Original quality

Wait, Tuner Sharing only works locally even though all devices are identical and are set to "Original Quality"?

I am very confused now. If I have a Nvidia Shield locally set to Original Quality and an identical Nvidia Shield down the street also set to Original Quality and tuned to the same channel with Tuner Sharing turned on both devices, I am going to eat up 2 of my tuner slots?

What exactly does Remux do and why does it do it on remote devices and not LAN devices if all settings and devices are identical?

Are you sure two tuners are being used? Check the HDHR web interface.

Yes I catch it doing it daily.

Make sure all your clients have the same Tuner order as the Server.... don't assume they are all the same check them all... and make sure tuner sharing is enabled in all.

I have multiple tuners and tuner sharing works.

They are all in the same order and Tuner Sharing is enabled on all. I've triple checked.

I tested 4 different Clients and they all work.

@troyhough the screenshots you've shared are demonstrating that everything is working as intended.

There is only one tuner being used on your HDHR for each channel that is being tuned into, and the DVR is providing each of your clients with a separate copy of that channel.

Each client listed in the DVR Activity view is the client that is viewing. It doesn't mean a new tuner is being used for each client.

Looks to me like it’s sorta tuner sharing. It’s sharing channel 107.1 just fine with two clients. It’s also sharing channel 142.1 with two clients. However the client that is three down in the activity screenshot grabbed a different tuner. That client seems to be the problem. Is that the remote client?

Ah, sorry I didn’t catch the second screenshot was a different HDHR.

If you submit diagnostics from all of the clients we can see for sure, but my best guess is that the tuner priority does not match on all of your clients.

Hi @eric

Ok so I just had my dad run a test remotely. He's there, I am not. This tuner sharing issue seems to happen intermittently.

So I had him tune to channel 107.1 on 1 of the TV's in the house. It pulled 107.1 from one of my HDHR tuners like it's supposed to. Had him go to another TV and tune to 107.1. It played and did not require a 2nd HDHR tuner slot. Ok so on to the next TV. Had him tune 107.1. This time It DID pull a 2nd slot from HDHR's. Ok so had him go to Manage tuner order in Channels settings and it was in the correct order as the server and all my other clients. Ok had him shut that one off for now. Had him go to another TV and tune to 107.1 and it played and did not require a 2nd slot from the HDHR. Ok now back to the previous TV that did require a 2nd slot, had him tune to 107.1 again and this time it did NOT require a 2nd HDHR tuner.

I had him go to submit diagnostics on that box and chose "other". Any idea what is causing this? Channels bug? Thanks

troy one thing that I made sure was on Global Settings on the Web page is to set all clients that connect to use tuner sharing ... You might be doing this already then just ignore me.

Where is this setting located at specifically? Thanks

Ok I just did this too. Is this required for Tuner Sharing to work properly over many devices?

That setting only affects devices at home.
