Tuner unavailable via Zerotier

I've recently upgraded my network to use Zerotier to prevent the hassle of configuring a firewall and vpn. It works fine for everything accept for my Channels DVR. When I go to settings and add the server via it's Zerotier IP address it appears to accept it and I can see my channels guide. However when I got to watch any channel I get an error that says "Tuner Unreachable". The strange thing is I can actually play my library. Just can't launch a live channel

Have you tried enabling tuner sharing on the client to see if it plays live tv that way?

I don't know how/what is tuner sharing :frowning:

Should be a setting in the Channels app on the client device you use to watch.

With tuner sharing enabled, live tv goes from your HDHR tuner, through the Channels DVR server to the client. All M3U and TVE channels do this no matter the setting.

With tuner sharing disabled, live tv goes directly from the HDHR tuner to your client device. This doesn't affect M3U or TVE channels, which must come from the DVR.

Having to guess your source is an HDHR tuner since you didn't say.

For some reason I’m not seeing this on my IPhone. That being said I’m not sure why I’d have to change anything since my IPhone and Channels DVR server are both on the same ZeroTier network

What sources are you using for Channels DVR?
HDHR tuners
TVE
M3U

All of the above

Also if I type in the ZeroTier IP address of the channels DVR via a WEB BROWSER the tuner works fine. It fails via the Channels App itself.

So which one is it. It works or doesn't work?

Try watching one channel from each of your sources. Do any work?

Rtfm

There is no m :grimacing:

I had a typo. If I type in the ZeroTier IP address of the channels DVR via a WEB BROWSER the tuner works fine. It fails via the Channels App itself

Fails with channels from ALL sources?
Because using a web browser as a client forces tuner sharing on.

Using the Zerotier network IP address via the Channels IOS app, TVE and Pluto work fine. It just fails for the channels OTV via my HDHomerun tuner that fail with "Tuner unavailable"

Enable tuner sharing in the Channels iOS app.
Don't ask me where to find it. I don't use it and there are no docs I can find that say where it is.

Hi,
I just figured it out. Thanks to all. Unfortunately it looks like Channels DVR will not work via a Zerotier network.

My local IP network is 192.168.X.X. When you activate Zerotier it uses a 10.X.X.X IP range. When you installed the Zerotier client it assigns your device a 10.X.X.X in order for your devices to communicate. The issue is my HDHomerun tuner uses the 192.168.X.X. There is no way to install a Zerotier client on the HDHomerun tuner. Therefore it will never see any of my Zerotier 10.X.X.X devices which includes my Iphone application :frowning:

Settings > Playback > Advanced > Tuner Sharing: On

Unfortunately that won't work :frowning: The HDHomerun tuner has a local IP address of 192.168.X.X. Zerotier creates a 10.X.X.X IP address to allow you to connect to your local devices remotely. The HDHomerun tuner would need to get a 10.X.X.X IP address via a Zerotier application but unfortunately there is no such thing

It should work. @chDVRuser explained it earlier. The traffic goes through the DVR which does have a zerotier IP.
