I just set up the Channels server on a raspberry pi 4, 4 GB RAM. The antenna channels from my flex 4K load instantly. However, when I try to watch a TV everywhere channels like ESPN, HGTV the channels take up to a minute to load on Apple devices. I have a Apple TV 4K first generation and an Apple TV 4K second generation and iPhone XR. Otherwise, everything works flawlessly. Once I actually get a channel tuned in there’s no issues whatsoever. I just wish I could get it to load the Channels faster. Any recommendations? I did submit diagnostics DVR Diagnostic Log c1be6eaf-7cd5-4efd-b469-69477dee7b8b.

Not that I can help you much. But once you connect to the espn or hgtv. Go to another channel and then back. Does it connect you faster? Otherwise it might be a slow login due to re credentialing. I do run into slow logins with my nas but generally takes less than 10 seconds to maybe 15 at the worst.

Sounds like there is some issue for the initial connection. Does the same happen if you try to stream from the networks' sites from a web browser on the system hosting the DVR server?
Re-authentication can take a while at times, but it should only be an issue about once a month. Another possibility could be the hard drive for your DVR recordings is sleeping, and the extra time is needed to wake the drive and get the platters spinning.
Unfortunately, it’s still slow and changing channels.
Watching in a web browser is much faster. It takes a few seconds but it’s a noticeable difference. So the issue seems to be when trying to watch TV everywhere channels from the Channels app on my devices but not from the web.
Do this speed test on the browser where the IP address is the address of your client, to confirm that the dvr/client connections is good
This doesn't necessarily dismiss the sleeping hard drive. If you access the web UI, the drive needs to spin up to access the data, so once it is up, of course it is going to be more responsive. I suppose it depends upon:
- the type of hard drive your DVR is using as its primary storage
- the OS running your DVR
- the firmware/power mode/SMART settings of the drive itself
But his earlier test of switching between channels ie once a TVE channel is already running, should exclude it to be the drive specifically.
I put in my IP address but it won’t let me test the speed.
I would check the DVR log when you experience that with a client.
Since the client has to ask the DVR to tune the channel you should see what's happening in the log.
You also state that tuning your flex 4k is instant. Do you have tuner sharing enabled on the clients?
If not they go directly to the tuner and bypass Channels DVR when viewing OTA from the flex.

No, it shouldn't. There are so many wild and disparate variables, that there is no way without being there ourselves to know. People giving information in a tech support situation often don't know exactly what is influencing what, so they don't share everything.
That is why details, and specific information, and the exact steps used to recreate the problem are necessary. Anything else is simply guesswork.
For all we know there is a crappy LED light within range of his Apple TV that is interfering with initial stream. But, we're not there, so we only guess.

Thank you for all the help for advice! It appears the problem is YouTube TV. When I remove channels such as ESPN and Fox News from YouTube TV and enable them for Verizon they tune instantly. I’m glad I have a back up source. I will prefer all channels from Verizon.

Yep completely agree. Was just trying to go down the most probable path

and it needs to be the IP address of the AppleTV, not the IP address of the server... (that took me a while to figure out when I first tried it).
