TVE Channels not "matching" Cable Channels from HDHR Prime

Hi Folks:

I'm getting into the inner workings of Channels and am overall liking the service.

One change I've made (thanks to tips on site) is set my TVE source as primary on my DVR Server so that it will prioritize recordings from TVE, while setting my HDHR Prime source as primary on my Apple TV App to prioritize viewing live TV from HDHR (since I only have 3 tuners.)

This works great most of the time....as long as the channels that are both in HDHR and TVE are "matched" so Channels DVR can show multiple sources for the same channel and prioritize the TVE channel for recordings.

However, I seem to have a handful of channels that Channels DVR Server cannot "Match" between HDHR and TVE. Example: NBC, Hallmark, and a few others. The DVR server sees these as separate, different channels on TVE and HDHR even though they are in-fact the same.

What's weird is if I set to record a show on HDHR, it will show the show as being recorded when viewing the TVE channel in the guide. But it won't record it from TVE.

Example:

Hallmark HD is channel 740 on my HDHR. In the "Source" channel list, it shows this in DVR Server as 740 HMKHD -> HALLHD. On TVE's Channel List it shows 6090 HALLMARK -> HALLHD

Both map to "HALLHD". So why doesn't the DVR see these as the same channel? Recordings on this channel will always come from channel 740 instead of 6090. If I view the schedule in the DVR of future recordings, channel 6090 is never listed as an option.

How can I "link" these channels? Same goes for NBC and several others.

Thanks.

The DVR web interface does not merge channels at all, only the clients do. So they will always remain separate. The source priority set in the DVR server will govern the recording priority. In the interface if you look at upcoming recordings you should be able to see the channels in order they will be tried. Note that this applies to passes. If you manually select a channel in the guide from your Apple TV that is a HDHomeRun prime channel, and set a “one off” manual recording, it will be tied directly to that channel and the DVR will only use that channel. So, to put it another way, the priority smarts to try multiple channels in priority order only applies to passes.

Also check the status of a channel being a Favorite. If a channel is marked as a Favorite, but not the priority, it will be chosen over a version of that same channel from a higher priority source.

Favorite channels are always preferred if the tuner is free, regardless of where that channel's source is in the DVR's priority list.

(Priorities and favorites are different between the clients and the DVR, and the combination of both of these discrepancies makes the guide and recording sources especially confusing for new users. This is an area that the developers are aware that needs work, but it is a very involved and challenging undertaking. Hopefully patience will be rewarded.)

OK thanks Macnbaish. That is exactly what is happening. My wife is recording 1-off recordings and these are the ones doing it. Passes are behaving properly, recording from TVE first. But one-offs are recording from HDHR where they are selected by the client.

Interesting behavior. I would think the system would choose to record the show from the "primary source" even if it was selected to be recorded from the "secondary source."

One thing i've learned about recording from TVE...the shows on TVE tend to lag about 1 min behind shows on HDHR...so I have to extend the recording time by 1 min or else the recording will stop before the show ends.
