TVE Live Stream Pausing, but DVR Recordings Fine

For the last two weeks or so, occasionally when I watch a channel through TVE, the stream will pause for a bit and then resume. It could be a second, it could be a few seconds. I notice it more for the local stations, particularly Fox.

I was watching the debate last week and the stream paused for about 2 seconds and then started. I hit the pause button on my remote and then 1 second later hit play and everything was fine for the rest of the debate. When I was watching the local news yesterday, the stream did the same thing... so I hit pause for a second, hit play and everything was fine.

I have noticed that all of the DVR recordings are fine and do not have any pauses. I am using a NAS that is directly attached to the router with 400mbps download and no transcoding.

Appreciate the help!

I see this too occasionally and I always assumed it was the client waiting on more data, perhaps if there is a slight internet hiccup or something.

I am seeing this also ... recordings are fine.

This can happen sometimes if your local CDN is lagging. The same thing happens during recording but you don't notice because its not live.

Forgive me, what is CDN?

Not sure what client device you're using, but I use the DVR web UI and find if I pause to let it buffer a bit before playing, I don't encounter as many issues. I usually pause to let it buffer 10-30 seconds before playing. If you're right at the end of the live buffer you get issues. Although there are other issues when watching in the web UI with a browser and TVE has its own issues.

I have the DVR on a Synology NAS and watching on Apple TV4. When it happens, I pause and everything’s ok going forward... it’s my wife that doesn’t understand

Yah, you shouldn't have to pause to watch normally. I can understand that.

I don't blame your wife lol I hate pause and restart ... should not have to do that. If it starts pausing I go back to the Cable channel.
