TVE losing Discovery owned channels

After a quick scan here I see a few topics where people have lost TVE channels, but a lot of them seem random. For the last month or more, maybe to mid or late December, I keep losing Discovery owned channels on TVE. They still show in the guide, but when I try to tune to them, the channel doesn't start playing and I get an error.

When I get on my server and look at the channel list they usually have an error 400 or 402, and the only way to recover the channels is to delete the TVE "tuner" and add it again. Just doing a channel scan doesn't fix the problem.

It's happening a couple times a week at least. I don't know for sure because I don't watch these channels every day, and honestly I only use TVE for them because my cable company has most of them DRMed so I can't get them with my cablecard. It's kind of annoying to try to watch something and then find out the channel has been lost again and have to go to my office and drop and re-add the TVE tuner. By the time I've done that, the show is half way over. Even more annoying when I set something to record only to get a failed recording because the channel has gotten dropped again.

Don't get me wrong, I love Channels, and I think what they are doing is great! I have Plex with a lifetime pass that I bought before I had my tuners because they were having a sale on the price and I knew I was going to try it eventually. Then I found out how bad their live TV is once I got around to getting tuners.

So does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Other than this one problem, I think everything else is great!

What service do you subscribe to that gives you access to TVE?

@AahzNotOz i was having trouble with the discovery channels a few months back. Having similar consistency issues. I thought they made some backend improvements and they have been stable for us since. My family hits them almost daily.

I had my first issue with them last weekend but was able to get them back after going through the available trouble shooting steps. I’m using xfinity tve.

I've been using it for 6-8 months, and never had problems until December. Since it is just the Discovery network owned channels, I was thinking they were doing something to cause problems for Channels users, but I didn't see a thread about it, so maybe it is a Mediacom thing.

@AahzNotOz assuming you’ve also jumped thru the various options in TVE Troubleshooting tips

Given our use of discovery very interested in what feedback you get. I’ve managed with just the dvr updates, incognito and password steps and not having to remove and add the source back in.

I was having the same problem. wound up being my vpn. I set channels to bypass the vpn and all the problems stopped.

Seems Discovery networks have begun blocking the vpn ip addresses.

Hi Rouvyjd. Yeah, I looked all through that, but nothing seemed to help. I did notice that there was an update that installed sometime yesterday and my access to TVE discovery channels was gone again, but it may just have been a coincidence. Losing the channels happens more often that updates, but I'll keep my eye on that.

Thank you for the information jeb09211! Unfortunately, I'm not using a VPN, so that wouldn't be the cause for me.

Can you submit diagnostics

Did you try rescanning just that channel already?

Actually you have to rescan on science channel and then I think they will all start working again.

Just submitted diagnostics. Yes I tried re-scanning twice, but now this channels don’t appear so I’m not sure how to force a rescan of that specific channel.

You have to rescan just one channel at a time under the rescan menu (where all the channels appear)

Submitted diagnostics 55d27b4f-3e94-4c04-bc7c-f01a6c73457c . Lost the discovery channels on Spectrum. 403 error. Tried the TVE troubleshooting tips. Tried re-scanning one at a time starting with Science channel.

I am also having issues with all the Discovery channels. I have tried re-scanning one at a time and continue to get error 403.

For those getting a 403 error.

I had this happen on two Channels DVR servers exactly 7 days after adding the TVE source to them
What I did to get past it may or may not work for you

opened a new Incognito/Private browser window
used HTTPS secure connection to access my Channels DVR web UI
opened a new tab in the same browser window and went to https://www.sciencechannel.com/
selected Link TV Provider, signed in and selected the channel I wanted to fix (diy/magnolia) and started it playing
went back to the Channels DVR web UI tab and started playing the channel from Live TV

I did not rescan the channel in Channels DVR

Interesting. I will make the DVR expire auth and retry after seven days.

The first time (on DVR# 1) it happenned it recovered itself with retries attempting to record a manual 10 minute recording. Retry wait times doubled from 1 to 2 to 4 to 8 to 16 to 32 to 64 seconds until it recovered on the 8th retry.

That's the reason I'm scripting 10 minute manual recordings every day. I call them "Canary" recordings, being sacrificial like the canary in a coal mine.
