TVE optimization when remote viewing

When connecting remotely to view a TVE stream the client app must request the server to stream the remote source, transcode the video, and then upload it to the client. Any possibility the client could request from the server the stream credentials and then directly stream the TVE source without going through the server? This would cut out extra bandwidth (and data cap concerns at home), reduce server load, and could provide a more consistent experience for live tv viewing when on the road.

I don't know the technicalities, but I believe that's how Fitzy does it

I like this idea as well. Of course once done it could work for local and remote the way HDHomerun support works.

However, I am curious why "must request" .... "transcode the video". TVE Videos are already in MPEG4 which is about 1/4 the size of MPEG2 (OTA Streams). I switched from OTA KTLA5 to TVE KTLA5 and it is a huge difference.

All TVE streams go through the DVR server and there are no plans to change how this works. Many streams are tied to an IP so it's not possible to stream them directly from a remote client.

Just Testing Fitzy. Channels don't change any faster
