Two (2) backends?

i recently upgraded my NAS and it looks to me like it should be possible for me to consolidate some stuff, eliminating the mac mini i use as a backend server today.

i’m a big fan of make-before-break, so i wanted to set up the NAS as a 2nd backend and connect it to a spare tuner and just see how it works for a bit, while keeping the mac mini backend doing it’s thing. i installed and fired up the backend but then it seems that the tvOS client just latches on to the first backend it sees - there’s apparently no way to select which backend it should talk to.

sound right? or have i missed a setting or have something misconfigured?

thanks,

rob

Only one DVR is supported on the network.

However, if you really want you can uncheck the Bonjour checkbox on the mac mini and then the clients will only be able to discover your NAS.

ah, OK thanks, i will try that.

In this scenario, or similar, would the new backend be able to adopt recordings from the old one? I know Channels isn’t intended as a media manager, but migration of passes and existing recordings from one instance to a new one may have merit given the inevitable need to upgrade hardware over time.

Yes you can move your existing recordings and settings between instances, and even between different platforms. This has been supported since day one.

Simply copy or move your recordings folder to the new system and the DVR will notice the old data and prompt you to import it during the setup process.

This is great to know! Sorry I missed it.
As always, thank you!

but remember that you cannot COMBINE the recordings from two separate engines into one. It would be only one or the other as primary… (yet… )
