Two channels freezing upon start, without any audio

Remember the HDHomeRun app if the device you are using does not support AC4 it will transcode it in the cloud to AC3.... so it will play regardless. Channels DVR does not do that.

Guess we should wait to hear from @Fofer
We may be going down the wrong path for his issue

I read the other threads (thanks!) and also tried this newest firmware beta, and I’m still having the same issue as “elvis” here. Same symptoms and end result. Sounds the same as all the others mentioning it for months in the other threads.

These channels aren’t playing via Channels, but they do play via HDHomeRun. I’m in Los Angeles, FWIW.

I’m not sure if it will help, but when I get home and have a chance I’ll make a recording.

Some ATSC3 stations don't play correctly. It is a known issue. There is no fix possible at the moment.

Dolby Atmos according to this post
https://www.avsforum.com/posts/63801694/
My guess would be 5.1.4 (10 channel)

And both KCOP and KTTV are Fox O&O stations.

That is why I think that the HDHomeRun APP is transcoding the audio so it will play.

I think so too, as mentioned earlier, my Sonos soundbar is reporting it as 5.1 surround.

Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 ?

Shows as HDR10 and Dolby Atmos 9.1.6

In my case the channel with the primary 10 channel audio carries a secondary 2 channel ac4 audio which plays fine. Is there a way it could be selected as the default audio channel instead?

Hey, that’s interesting. Your post inspired me to check my affected channels too -

Sure enough, after I tune in, wait the 2 minutes for the video to play, as usual now, without audio, I swipe up to Options, change “Audio Language” to Spanish, and the audio starts playing… in English. Yes, in stereo, not 5.1, but still, much better than nothing.

Great discovery, thanks. I hope this helps lead to a fix.

There is no need to wait for 2 minutes, Apple TV allows to switch the audio right away.

Yeah! I came back to say just that, after trying the same. This is working on 111.1 and 113.1.

We just need something that will prevent choosing audio tracks with too many channels.

Experimental setting:

Maximum number of audio channels per track - Default value 8?

Have you looked at your recordings with mediainfo to see what the audio is?

This should work on your recording too

Yes:

Yes, it does. I'm glad this works, thanks. Now it's just the show-stopping spinning wheel when channel surfing these primary local channels, that makes it a painful bug.

Sounds like that would work. With this broadcasting change, if Channels were to allow us to set a default track per channel, or just remembered those that were changed away from 1 / English, that could work too.

Is that not already possible? I think that would benefit foreign-language speakers too, so they wouldn't have to change a channels' language track every time they tuned into it

Assuming this change becomes more common, the "Audio Language" option may also be more appropriately labelled "Audio Track."

Having the same issue in Los Angeles area with 111.1 and 113.1. Have to change the audio to “Spanish” for stream to play.

Could this be a fix (I don't have an OTA HDHR w/ATSC 3.0)?

Just tested here, and yes, these two channels are tuning in properly, with sound now! Thanks! Very happy to see this fix :+1:t3:
