My understanding is that Freeview HD typically transmits with 5.1 sound encoded with AAC (I'm no expert so please forgive me if I've got that wrong.)
Channels is recording 2.0 AAC sound. Is there a way to get the full 5.1 sound saved with DVR recordings?
5.1 is exceedingly rare on any Freeview HD channels. You'll occasionally see it on BBC1 and 2 but otherwise it's all 2.0 I'm afraid.

Do you know if Channels DVR records the 5.1 audio when it is included in the broadcast by BBC? I can't see any of my recordings that have it.
It does record it, it's just very rare. I've mainly seen it on some films and sports programmes, but not often. Never on ITV, C4 or C5.
