Unmute Apple TV in PiP

Hello
Is there any toggle to enable sound when the player is in PiP mode?

Currently it mutes which isn't the best / most expected UX

Sound already is enabled in PIP by default so it sounds like this is something wrong with your particular setup. What remote control are you using?

Hmm very odd - whenever something goes PiP it mutes for me!
Im using the new Apple TV remote (3rd Gen)

Hmm, I’m sure others will chime in with other ideas, but I’m wondering what’s different between your setup and mine (I use the same remote.) Try Settings > Playback > Advanced > Audio Driver > Experimental?

I’m on the latest TestFlight of the tvOS Channels client, FWIW.

That fixed it - thanks a lot man

EDIT:
Actually after changing channel the issue is back - when it goes to PiP the audio is muted!
Do you have any other ideas that I can try?

Hmm, I’m not sure.

My Settings > Playback > Picture in Picture settings are:
Hide PIP Button - On
Automatic PIP - Everything

Also check under Settings > Playback > Remote Control > Shake Remote to Mute (should be off, this only worked with the 1st Gen Siri remote anyway)

Also try rebooting the AppleTV. I assume it’s running the latest tvOS?

Checked and tried matching the settings but still the same result - also same after a reboot

My audio source is a HomePod mini - not sure if that is affecting anything

My audio source is a HomePod mini

That might explain the difference, my TV's use Sonos. But I do know that the default and intended behavior in Channels is for PIP to play with sound enabled, regardless of what type of speaker or soundbar is connected, so hopefully a fix will be added or recommended to you soon.

I have the same problem with PiP (no audio) when using my 2nd gen HomePod stereo pair as the audio output on the ATV. Audio works as expected only as long as the audio output is set to the TV speakers (Samsung sound bar)
