I'm away from home but would like to update my DVR Server while there is nothing recording. Is there any problem with doing that? Or is there a reboot required where login passwords may come into play?
As long as you have remote enabled it’s easy. Just go to http://my.channelsdvr.net/ Login and update it. No reboot needed.

With the usual caveat that YMMV and may be dependent on your setup, I can say I do it all the time. I run on a QNAP NAS (TS-253A) and all that happens when I update is that it updates and keeps on chugging. If it's recording it waits until nothing is recording unless you force it to update.
