Update Error safety check failed

I am still getting this when trying to update: Error checking for update: safety check failed: exit status 1

I posted this several months ago and never got it resolved.

So I thought I would tee it up again and hopefully get it resolved!

Are you running anti-virus protection?

Only what comes with Windows.

Can you try disabling it and see if that allows you to upgrade?

I disabled Real Time Protection and it still won't install.

Please submit diagnostics again.

I ran the safety check by running the following at a command prompt:

C:\ProgramData\ChannelsDVR\2026.08.07.0346\channels-dvr.exe -safety-check

And it returned: {"success":true,"version":"2026.08.07.0346"}

After you run that does it still fail to update?

If so, try stopping the DVR, renaming the latest directory to something else and change that versioned directory to latest.

The new releases have a longer timeout waiting for the safety check to respond that we hope will fix this in the future.

Still would not update after running the safety check so I renamed as you said and it is now updated. Hopefully the longer timeout will work. At least I have a work around!
