Updates on Synology

Since Synology doesn’t appear to support auto updates, is there a way to upgrade the DVR software without losing all recording settings and access to the recorded shows?

Currently I have just been using the manual install after downloading the spk file. After I do the install, I have to go through the setup process all over again and the channel clients don’t see any recording nor scheduled recordings or passes.

Slight correction. The Apple TV shows scheduled recordings and passes but no recorded shows. The iPhone client and DVR webpage show no scheduled recordings, passes or recorded shows.

The DVR software auto-updates itself on all platforms. There is no reason to reinstall it manually.

If you need to restore your old settings, you can do so by access http://x.x.x.x:8089/restore

Can you elaborate on why you think this is the case?

Under Synology’s package center settings “Auto Update” tab, Channels DVR is greyed out. I started with version 1.0.1. I had to manually update to 1.0.2 a while back and ran into a similar issue but I had a few recordings and nothing scheduled so it wasn’t a big deal. Today I noticed that 1.0.4 was out and my NAS was still running 1.0.2. So if it auto-updates, there is something stopping my system from doing it.

We don’t use the SPK auto-update feature. The DVR has its own updater built in.

The newer SPK versions just add support for more models. Once the SPK is installed you don’t need to worry about newer versions of it.

Ok, I just found that. The restore did the trick. Thanks!
