Upgrade Synology NAS

I tried to migrate and upgrade my synology nas. I couldn’t get channels to find the server. How do I delete on new server and start over?

You need to be much clearer. Are you trying to replace an old NAS with a new one?

Yes

What are you trying to delete?

The procedure to move from old server and/or NAS is to backup the data set on the old NAS. Then setup a storage area on your new NAS and copy the existing videos including the file structure (sub directories) to the new nas. Then install channels, and last restore the backup of the database on the new server.

This is the official documentation for the process:

It will take some time yet if you follow the steps it works well.

The other thing to be aware of re: Channels DVR Server on Synology NAS

When Channels DVR ran using the old DSM v6 Synology Package (no longer available), it ran as user root that had unfettered access to your NAS.

The only Synology Package now available is for DSM v7, where it runs as System Internal User channels https://getchannels.com/dvr-server/#synology So any directory it needs to access has to allow that user access to it.

I ran the migration. I get the guide on the new Synology. I can’t see old recordings or record. How do I start over?

Did you move the old recordings to the new NAS?

Did you provide rights to the folder with the files as pointed out by chDVRuser?

The folders moved when I setup the new NAS. Going into the web interface I couldn’t see how to get to where I could change permissions. When I launched the channels app on the new Synology and select restore, I get to database but it shows 0 recordings which isn’t the case.

With both NAS’s online, now when I try and connect to the new NAS, all I get is the guide with no ability to record and no prior recordings. When I go back and try to connect to the old NAS, I can’t connect.

The old one is a DS215. The new one is a DS220. Going from DSM 6 to 7.

You need to move the recordings and provide permissions. This is not done by channels.

You do it on the Synology.
There is a link in the Note: below, that when clicked takes you to a post showing how https://getchannels.com/dvr-server/#synology

Do I need to enable this on the old server or the new server? The files from old server were migrated when the new NAS was setup.

On the new server for every shared folder that Channels DVR will be writing to or reading from.
It sets the permissions on the folders so Channels DVR (running as System internal user channels) has access to the folders.
