Upgraded WD PR4100 to OS 5 and need help

I forgot to read the instructions and didn't backup my Channels database. I really don't mind starting over with the recordings but I am trying to figure out how to delete the old recordings.

How would I access the file folders beyond the publicly available folders? I know the paths (more or less) to my old recorded tv shows and movies.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I only have a third of my disk space available.

Is it possible to move the recordings to a different folder and import them? If so, how do I move them?

Not quite sure what you mean.

The DVR automatically backups and you can use those to restore on a new install. The backups live in the Database folder next to your recordings.

You can ssh into the pr4100:

ssh [email protected]
Use the password for ssh that you setup in the pr4100 admin screen.

When you setup Channels DVR, you had to provide it with a storage location for your database, recordings, logs, etc. That share should show up automatically. If not, it should be located at:
cd /shares

If the share doesn't exist but only the storage path, create a new share and point to storage path location.

The Channels DVR software is installed at:
cd /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/

To move recordings to different location, access the share for Channels DVR at cd /shares/name-of-folder using the file manager from your desktop OS. Simply "cut-and-paste" the files to a new location.

I didn't backup the database.

You're saying you didn't save the Database folder?

Do you have to save folders individually when upgrading from OS3 or OS5? Did it start fresh, and you had to reinstall all your apps like Channels too?

All the recordings are there but I didn't back up the database folder so when I reinstalled the channels app I guess it overwrote the database file. I thought I could move the recordings to a non-channels folder and import them.

You can open http://192.168.1.169:8089/restore to find and restore the backup. They are made automatically and will still be there just like your recordings are.

Thanks, for making Channels idiot proof.
