I got a note from my ISP that they are downgrading my upload speed to 10 Mbps from 30 Mbps but increasing my download speed to 500 Mbps from 300 Mbps.
Will 10 Mbps up be enough to watch streaming outside my network at HD quality?
Thanks,
Tony

Set your streaming quality 720 @ 4mbs is more than plenty. I have 10mbs upload at home too.
If you don't wish to change from 300/30 to 500/10, I believe you can opt out of the service change. But, you have to call to specifically request it.
I can stay on my current plan but I have to have them come in and swap out the modem or go to them to get it. For now, just checking my options and if 10 Mbps up will be feasible.
Man, if it was me, I'd choose to stay on that higher upload plan.
Yes, I'm thinking the same. The main reasons I upload are really to upload family video to YouTube, update offsite backup of my computer, and use Channels when I am outside the home.
If you're doing that for upload, I definitely think it's worth keeping. To me, the law of diminishing returns comes into play here. From 300 -> 500 download, what kind of real world difference would that make? Likely, very little. It's hard to saturate that much simultaneous bandwidth in the real world. On the flip side, the difference 10 -> 30 upload is big. It's the difference between multiple remote viewings of channels & uploading a YouTube video at the same time vs possibly bottlenecking that connection.
Okay, I will stick with the same plan. I called them and they will simply send out a new modem.
So weird...why would the current plan require a new modem but the new plan require the old modem??
They are changing how they bond channels, and to maintain the higher uploads bandwidth, the modem needs to support DOCSIS 3.1.

Thanks for that. Very informative. Really wish they could get their act together and improve the Upload speed above 30. I miss the days I had fiber and has both upload and download at around 900.
I long for the day that comcast can offer me better upload speeds.
