I use USTVGO.TV to watch certain channels on my Fire Stick 4K and miss having it integrated into my Channels-DVR guide and recording options. Is there a way
to add it like Locast or TV-Everywhere while cutting the cord?
Channels doesn't support pirate sites
Well said, Richard_smith.
The fact that USTVGO provides all those channels for free, including HBO, is not legal at all. HBO on its own requires a (legal) subscription of $14/month so if you are able to get it for free, it should be a red flag that this service is not legal.
It's a matter of time before they get sued.
It looks like they are trying to confuse users by making their service seem like USTV Now, which is a (questionably?) legal place-shifting service geared towards US military abroad. (Their rationale is similar to Locast's; however, since USTV Now has been around for many years without problems, they're probably on decent footing.)
The APK was downloaded from the Google Play Store with serves as a
first filter for the legal questions. There are other services like the $10 Vidgo
and the $10 TVision from T-Mobile that can add channels over the OTA options
that many people will use. So the basic question is can Channels integrate these
added services with their guide and record options to be the central entertainment
hub in a home or will streaming serves remain a fragmented selections of programs
with no one company taking command of the problem? So stop asking if it's legal
and start asking is it possible to really create a central hub. Someone will create
an answer sooner or later.
Any external source can be added to Channels with their Custom Channels. For information, here's the documentation:
However, don't expect any support from the developers integrating your feed beyond assistance in the abstract.
We can avoid mentioning the legal aspect for a minute and focus on the technical aspect.
The short answer is that if it can be streamed live, it can technically be added to Channels.
Now, it's up to the Channels developers to decide if they want to do it. I already know their answer: if it's not legal, it will never happen. Ever.
Nobody can stop you from hacking your way around and add it to Channels yourself.
As far as I'm concerned, that's where I stop the conversation.
If you have an active m3u stream for the channels USTVGO offers you would be able to add them as a text source under M3U.
That said, the developers will not customize the EPG or customize an easy way to add the service like they did for Locast. What you could do would be to change the EPG provider to a a cable provider in the correct time zone where the channels would match.
I haven't used USTVGO but if the network feeds are from say, New York, choose a New York cable provider for the EPG and link the channels directly in the edit mode. The guide data will be accurate and won't require much tinkering after the fact.
Vidgo is $10 for 2 months then goes up to $55 Tv Vision is $10 for limited channels with T mobile cell service. Both pay the networks to re distribute the content, Ustvgo doesn't. Channels is not set up for Bottom feeds that don't want to pay for access to content.
