Is it possible to connect to my home server to watch my Channels at a vacation home?
Yes, if you have setup remote access at home already.
Does my.channelsdvr.net load for you?
If so, just start up Channels then select Connect to DVR > Away From Home
Do I have to have a static IP for it to continue to work or not? Would I be able to use an Apple TV at the vacation home for this or only a browser? I’m sorry I just really don’t get how it all works!
You can use the Apple TV. A static address isn’t required, Channels knows how to find your DVR.
Channels DVR Server manages everything for you. While you directly connect securely to your sever at home and nothing goes through a cloud, we do have facilities to ensure your home is reachable. We just use normal industry standard DNS techniques.

So every time I try and set it up automatically it fails and says I need to manually enable it. I do. Then I run a check and it says remote access failed and says channelsdvr.net is pointed at X IP address but the current IP for this system is X. Taking out IP addresses but you get the picture. Neither that it shows there is the one that in the DVR section tells me to use. I’m lost.
If automatic is not working and you are using the manual setting you need to set the port to be forwarded through your router. Have you done that?
Yes. I also checked on a port checker website and it says 8089 is open.
So are you saying your public IP address and the IP address returned by my.channelsdvr.net don’t match?
Once trying to setup automatically fails, it tells me to manually setup the port forward and it provides an IP address. I use that when I setup my router. Then when I go check under support, it says that error and lists two IP addresses basically saying I have it set to X but should be X. Those two it says are completely different than the one it tells me to use in the DVR settings.
The second error indicates you may be running a VPN or have a double NAT setup. Hard to tell without seeing the IPs.

Well somehow it started working!
But what if I don’t have the DVR version of the app? Can I still view remotely? If so, how?
I think the regular app will also work with the DVR server. Are you using Channels Plus with a DVR server and remote access enabled?
I'm actually using just Channels (which is a fantastic app) to view live TV inside my home on my network. I use Plex Pass to view and record OTA outside my home. My question was to clarify features for me. I have no issue in purchasing a product with full features.
Channels Plus is required for out of home streaming.
Reviving this because I have a new problem. Hooked up a firestick, downloaded the DVR app and it just failed loading but would let me point to an account or anything. It was just looking locally and that was it. Do I have to buy the regular Channels app in order to access my server remotely with the DVR app? Sorry if this is obvious, I just can’t figure it out. Also, I already pay for Channels Plus if that makes a difference.
The free app should work. Click Connect > Away From Home
Can you take a photo of what you're seeing?
I restarted the firestick and it finally asked me to connect away from home and it worked. Looks like it was just a FS issue. Sorry!
