TiVo sure did.
I have to say, I've never had traditional cable since I'm 32 and had it growing up, but never had it as an adult.
DirecTV with the LinkPi encoders, ADBTuner and a couple of used Osprey boxes is a great setup. They have excellent picture quality, pretty much every channel, the LinkPi encoders are very easy to configure, and ADBTuner is just excellent.
YouTube TV is also another great option and works extremely well if it has the channels that suit your needs. It probably works even better with ADBTuner because it will deep link from a regular Android TV box much faster whereas DirecTV really tunes much quicker with their Osprey boxes. DirecTV will tune just fine on a regular Android TV or Google TV box, but to get it reliable, it's a little bit slower. By slower, we're talking seconds, but if you have a need for speed, it could get a little irritating.
I have to thank Verizon for the EOL of my cable cards. I dropped all TV coverage and ended my grandfathered deal that got me most of the premium channels at a great discount. The cost was being limited to 100-Mb which was not harmful as I implemented QOS on my router.
My solution, get a quad tuner HD-Homerun and low-cost panel antenna with amp. I get the same quality picture and sound as I did with FIOS. I've replaced the channels I've lost with streaming choosing the premium plans so that I don't get commercials and I'm saving money and all the streaming is 4K v FISO 1080 and 720p. I'm also using SLM as it integrates Channels DVR with streaming wonderfuly.
I chose to avoid the setups that many seem to babysit a lot such as ADBTuner, Chrome Capture, ... because this is about entertainment. I do not want to be my families tech support and I want them to have highly reliable entertanment.
