My DVR recordings of HD shows are painfully slow to FF/Rew and use the commercial skip. SD recordings are smooth as butter when using FF or Rew or Commercial skip and do not get “hung” like HD recordings. I am on a wired network, so I don’t think it’s a slow network issue. I’m watching on an Apple TV 4k and the DVR is running on a Windows desktop. Anyone else having this issue?
Can you look up the IP of your ATV4K, then while the app is running open http://x.x.x.x:57000/speedtest on your PC and post the results here.
Download: 50.97
Latency: 5.58 ms
Jitter: 6.79 ms
50mbps is quite low, and explains why there’s such lag. Both your DVR and ATV4K are wired? You should be getting close to 1000mbps if that is the case. Are they plugged into the same router/switch? Are you using cat6e cables?
And if that latency is equivalent to the latency you’d get with a ping test, 6ms is pretty bad for a LAN, too. For comparison purposes: Pinging my NAS from my network server results in about 1/10th of a millisecond times. Even pinging 5k packets results in less than 1/2ms times.
I’m actually using a Deca II wired networking (old technology, but I used to have DirecTV and just stuck with the Deca). Would switching to Moca help? I really don’t feel like pulling Cat6 through my 90 year old house.
Yes, MOCA 2.0 would give you much better speeds.
