Video Buffers When Watching Remotely on Fire TV Stick

We're up in WI visiting our son and daughter-in-law, and when we try to watch either a recording or live TV using the Channels app on our Fire TV stick that is connected via the internet, to our Channels DVR server back in AZ, during playback the video constantly pauses for a few seconds, plays, and repeats the cycle. If I press pause the playback for an minute, than hit play, it will play for a minute then go back to to the buffering cycle.

Tried playing the same video and live TV using the app on my Galaxy phone that is connected to the same wi-fi network as the Fire TV stick, they both play fine. If I play a recording or live TV from Plex on that same Fire TV stick, everything plays back fine.

My son has a 1G fiber internet connection here in WI, and I have T-Mobile at home in AZ with great service (never seen less than 300Mbps down and 40Mbps up) so it has to be the Fire TV and Channels app so I don't think it's the connection. Are there any special settings I need to make in the Channels DVR settings of the Fire TV app?

Try changing the playback quality on the firestick to original quality in the check marked connection type in the firestick under settings, playback, streaming quality.

If that doesn’t help compare that setting with your galaxy phone and match them.

If the above doesn’t work try using 2mb quality as I’m sure you are using Tailscale since you mention T-Mobile internet. For some reason I have noticed when traveling that some locations the Tailscale Derp knocks the connection down to 3mb.

You can also use the Settings, Support, Test Speed to DVR Server. This should let you know how your connection is doing. There is nothing special to setup, but if you are using a HDHomerun tuner as one of the sources, Tuner Sharing must be on for a Tailscale connection to work.

Thanks guys. I forgot about the playback setting in the Channels app so I set the one for streaming to 4 MB and tested it and it works find.

Thanks for the help.
