Hey Kids, question about video cards/ transcoding. I have an extra i7 - 4770 system laying around that I'm thinking about moving my DVR to. I am under the impression i would need a dedicated GPU to handle any transcoding. Is this correct and if so what is minimum I can buy to handle at most 4 streams at once?
If you're not planning on serving more than 2 remote streams at a time, the CPU's integrated graphics will be sufficient; no extra discrete GPU is required.
Clarifying - I meant 4 remote streams.
My personal advice would be to give it a try as-is ... you can always add a GPU later if you find you need it.
