Out of curiosity, when the CDVR status says "Video processing for <something recently recorded>" what is it doing?
When Channels DVR says Video processing or Processing recording for a recently recorded file, the server is running post-recording analysis tasks on the file. This typically includes running commercial detection (Comskip), generating deep video fingerprints for intro/credit detection, or scanning the file for chapter markers.
What the Server is Doing Behind the Scenes:
- Commercial Detection (Comskip): Scanning the transport stream to locate ad breaks and write commercial markers so you can skip them during playback.
- Generating Fingerprints: Analyzing video frames ("Deep Video Processing") to identify intros, credits, and match structural fingerprints for improved auto-play and remote playback features.
- Index/Metadata Generation: Finalizing file indexing and verifying file timestamps to ensure smooth trick-play (fast-forward and rewind) operations.
Well, the Comskip commercial detection is shown explicitly in the status display. So, I don't think that is part of "Video processing." The fact that (Comskip) commercial detection is shown explicitly is what prompted my question.
Does anything happen that may result in the video file being modified?
