This is my first day with Channels DVR, and I must be missing something. How can I view the channel guide and set up recordings, and play recordings from my Windows computer that is running the server?

Have you completed the setup of the server?
On your PC you can load http://localhost:8089 and access the web interface. You can view the guide and set up recordings there.
