Virtual Channels and continue watching

It might be working as expected since the feature mimics linear TV, but when partially watching a show from a virtual channel it isn’t showing up in Up Next.

It does, however, show up in the Recently Watched Episodes list so maybe it is marking it as watched completely. The watched progress is accurate, so if I drill down to find the episode it will allow me to resume or watch from beginning.

Watching anything via virtual channels has no effect on watch state.

It shouldn’t be doing the latter, we’ll check it out.

Ouch. I know you have a target design you all are working towards, but the “bug” in the second paragraph helps me out.

Thanks for the quick reply.

In the hope that I am missing a way to accomplish this, or to plant an idea for future enhancements, I am looking for a way to randomly list episodes that are part of a collection, haven’t been watched in x number of months and then easily continue to watch that episode later if I don’t finish. Virtual channels tied to a collection and sorted randomly gets me close (with your input in another thread about adding last watched dates to smart rules getting it even closer).

In the other media server I use, I can create a smart playlist where show is in a certain collection, hasn’t been watched in 9 months and when I watch it partially it shows up in the Continue Watching section.

That seems to be conflating Virtual Channels and Library Collections.

Watch state is in fact affected when watched from a collection. And what you’re describing sounds more like building a dynamic collection.

While we don’t have all the rules you described, we hope to be able to add more soon.

I think I have a solution to my need so in case others are looking for something similar and are using iOS/tvOS.

The new Siri shortcut support includes Show Collection on Other Device and it has a shuffle option. There is also a global setting to ignore watched when shuffling. For my need, I created a shortcut to shuffle and show my cooking competition collection on the Apple TV. I can run it when I need a new random show within this collection.

From the TV Shows section, you can click and hold a Collection to get the Shuffle option, right in the app.
