Virtual channels ignore commercial skip setting

Virtual channels ignore the commercial skip setting when set either/both as a client setting and/or when set as a server override, this results in virtual channels automatically skipping commercials. I choose to let the commercials play when watching virtual channels, since playback will jump back at the end of the episode to a point equal to the time the skipped commercials would of played, and commercial detection frequently messes up for some channels I record.

This occurs in both the release and beta versions of the Apple TV app.

This is not supposed to happen. The time of each episode as shown in the guide is the runtime without commercials.

Commercials are always skipped on virtual channels and there is currently no way to change this.

If we did add an option for this, it would likely be a setting on the virtual channel because the guide calculation has to match whatever you select.

Problem is the commercial detection isn't precise enough on some channels I record to leave automatic commercial skip on, as I'm constantly having to rewind to catch the first part after a commercial. I think it's the having to rewind to catch the first part after a commercial that is causing it to jump back at the end of the episode. It would be preferable to have virtual channels honor the setting that is already set for manual commercial skipping, rather than creating a separate setting just for virtual channels, for continuity throughout the app. On top of this, having commercials play on virtual channels helps enhance the illusion that you are watching a real channel. The virtual channels are a great feature, and I greatly appreciate the team's work on them, but I'd like to have this one annoyance addressed.

Like I mentioned, the guide is generated by the server and has to contain accurate time slots, so its not possible to do this via client-side setting.

Well, with a separate server setting then, as it gets annoying to continually have to rewind to catch the first part missed after each commercial. That's the reason I have the auto skip disabled both on clients and the server side.

I rarely ever skip commercials anyway, commercials are for bathroom breaks :wink:
