Virtual Channels on QNAP using Container Station

Hello,

I recently moved my Channels DVR off a PC to a QNAP TVS-872X. I am running QTS 5.0.1.2194. QNAP kept shutting down the DVR I guess because of changes with 3rd party applications. Other than the server regularly getting shut down by the QNAP, I was able to set it up no problem with Virtual Channels as well.

I followed the instructions here to get the server running within Container Station: Channels Support - Channels DVR Server won't run on QNAP anymore

The server now successfully runs, but the issue I now see is I cannot browse to the shared folders that my local movies and TV show media are saved in so I can setup my Virtual Channels again, which I love.

I am somewhat a novice to please go gentle on me. When I launch the Channels interface and am in the settings, when I try to add the folders that my media is saved to, I feel I am "stuck" with only the folders within Container Station that the Channels DVR was installed in. I can't get out to the root directories where my shared folders are.

Am I correct it is impossible to use Virtual Channels the way I'm configured within Container Station or is there another way to get there? If only QNAP just allowed a "normal installation" of the DVR server like Plex (which I also have installed) I would have no issues.

Thanks in advance for any guidance / help.

You can install the latest QNAP package from getchannels.com/dvr-server

When you create the container in Container Station you're given a screen to create the container that has the name and cpu/memory settings and then an advanced settings option at the bottom. Click the advanced settings and one of the options will be shared folders.

You need to add the volume from host (qnap) to the mount point (container). So you'll put something like /share/Downloads > /Downloads

This will mount the Downloads directory in to the container so you can access it.
