Now I have to click watch when picking a channel in the guide. Why the change? I’d rather it go straight to the program.
Hit play instead of clicking the remote and it will skip that.
Eh, this is another instance I would prefer a user setting, I understand the change but I think press+hold for record would be a better option than making play the quick way to select since natural reaction is to use the touch pad for most people.
Well I agree with Jmcquire525. This should be a user preference. The way the remote has been set up for years using cable boxes or WMC is you select the program and “enter” or “OK” and program comes on. Play requires a move of the finger or thumb to a further distance. I know it might seem petty, but ergonomically the original way was better and similar to other systems.
I didn’t see this yesterday and thought it was about the DVR section in ‘Up Next’ where you can hit play from the main screen to play or click to go into the submenu. But now that I forced the Apple TV to update, I see this on the Guide menu, and I don’t like it.
I think this makes it consistent with future time. Press enter and you see a menu, press play and content plays.
Speaking of the guide, it doesn’t look like a double left click does anything, maybe it could bring ya back to current time if you scrolled to future?
Getting lots of complaints from the family on this new feature. It feels less natural to hit the play button when your finger is already in the clicking area of the remote. Agree with others that if this must stay, have a setting to go back to the older function.
+1 for press+hold to bring up the record modal and keeping the previous behavior of select to play the channel.
I’m not sure if iOS behavior can be changed but I wish there was a way to do something similar and avoid it always asking if I want to play or watch in PIP, of course I don’t want PIP!
Totally agree. If I want PnP (95% not)…let me choose once playing.
This has been reverted in the latest beta! Clicking something that is currently airing now immediately plays again.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. We needed a way to let you record something that was currently airing, without having to tune into the channel. And we wanted it to be normalized across everything so it was easier to use.
Turns out it was terrible. We even hated it! So it’s gone. You can now hold down on a currently airing show to get the option to record it. In addition, the action menu you get in On Now while holding is a little better too, it works the same way across all of the filters.
Thanks!
