Watch while recording

Just setup Channels DVR server on the windows 10 pro box (i5-4670T, 8Gb mem) I have connected to my TV. I got a HDHomerun box but it did not allow me to watch a program while I was recording it. So I am trying Channels. I am able to watch Live TV and then I setup a recording. After that had been recording for a bit I went to start watching it but it just spins and below is says:
Transcoder Starting at 10mbps: 6m57s
Any suggestions?

Of course you can watch a recording while it is still in progress. using HDHRapp and ChannelsDVR.

Example recording Scooby Doo see Recorded. ....

If I understand correctly, you are using your TV as a monitor for your computer that is running the server.
This means that whenever you watch something on the computer, it is done in the browser.

As far as I know, the browser always transcodes, which explains this:

it just spins and below is says:
Transcoder Starting at 10mbps: 6m57s

I've always had issues using the browser to watch something from Channels. I just do it when I need to check something quickly.

On your TV, you will be better off using a streaming stick/box connected to one of the HDMI inputs of the TV.
It will be a much better experience.

Thanks. But with HDHRapp when I clicked on the Play arrow next to the recording it took me to live and would not let me start from the beginning. I was hoping the Channels DVR would let me start from the beginning of the episode/movie while still recording

It will but get yourself a supported client and everything will be just like you want it to. The web interface is really just for testing etc and not meant to be used an an everyday client

Do you have the HDHR DVR enabled ? and are you sure the show is in fact recording to the HDHR Folder ? It is $35 dollars a year to use the HDHR DVR.

Ha. I bet that is it. Maybe I should RTFM. Thanks

Channels is an app for streaming devices. What you're using is the web administration site. Sure, you can watch things with it, but it's not meant to be used for anything but administration.

Check out the site for the product and you'll see that's the case. There's not a single screenshot of the web admin anywhere.

So, if you are finding UX deficiencies in using the web admin in a browser full screen on your computer attached to a TV, then yeah, you're definitely going to have a bad experience, because it was never designed for that.
