WD PR4100, system crash

I have a consistent system crash when playing anything back that is over an hour long. This has been going on for the past two months. I have contacted WD and they cannot locate the issue. The video will lock up then a system crash, almost like in the old days when a swap file would fill up. Anybody else have this issue?

What client are you using when this happens? Are you saying the WD NAS itself crashes when this happens? Any errors in the DVR log when it happens?

I only have Channles running, but I do have Plex on the unit as well.

Please click Support > Submit Diagnostics on your DVR

Thank you sir! I have done so.

I am only running Channels at the time of the crash, but I am also recording at the same time as the playback.
The NAS, just locks up and I need to reboot to get it working again.
I am sorry, I am unable to see any data on the DVR log due to the fact that I do not know how to open up the report and view it.

If you go to https://my.channelsdvr.net are you able to see the DVR interface? There is a log section there, that’s what I’m referring to.

Thank you for your help! I got rid of the WD unit and switched to Synology unit and I no longer have any issues!

How do you like the Synology compared to your WD? I have a PR2100 and nobody seems to use it around here.

I have a DS418, it is not the fastest processor, but it does everything I ask it to do with out fail. I am using it for all my backups and now I added Channels to it due to the WD being a POS. I love the product, it straight forward and it just works, day in and day out!!! Cloud access works great and Channels runs great through my Apple TV. Transcoding is whole different story for me and I am not going to ask this unit to run PLEX due to the small processer. I will be buying a DS1520+ shortly to do all that! I have had the unit for (4) years without a single issue, there stuff just works!!!!!!!!

I have a PR4100 running Channels DVR and it runs flawlessly.

I had an issue like you did with my PR2100 running OS5. I had to turn off the remote access to stop indexing. it ended up running out of RAM in a few days. Things are better now. I have to say WD support was excellent. Was your issue with OS5?

My PR2100 has been excellent with exception of upgrade to OS5.

Clarification: Things run great now. OS5 uses more RAM than before.

What OS are you running?

Channels rus fine, but the WD NAS locks up and crashes after an hour into a movie. This the typical log error I see after reboot.

Same here - have had two PR4100's and haven't had issues running channels on either. I did upgrade the ram to 16 GB, which is overkill for the unit, but seemed to help improve performance when remote streaming. I'd guess that 8GB would have been plenty, but there were times when running Plex, processing a recorded file with comskip and playing back another show I saw the RAM consumption getting closer to the 4GB than I liked.

Maybe you should backup what you can and re-initialize your PR4100.

I also run the HDHomeRun DVR on it.

I have been fighting with this thing ever since the new OS. What am I doing wrong then?

Firmware - 5.08.115 OS - 5
