What is considered "watched" by the DVR?

I’m really enjoying this product on the Apple TV.

In the DVR settings, I see it allows you to set it so that it only keeps “unwatched” episodes. What does the DVR consider as “watched” or “unwatched”? For example, if I watch 5 minutes, I am guessing that would not be considered watched. However, what if I watch all except the last 2 or 3 minutes when the credits are showing and leave the show? Does it still consider that unwatched?

Thanks!

Recordings are considered watched:

  • if you click the “mark watched” button

  • if you watch more than 95%

  • if the recording ends in a commercial and you stop watching in that commercial portion, even if you stop before 95%

You can also tell which episodes are watched by the status bar at their bottom. The green bar shows how much you have watched. If it’s all the way across, it’s considered watched.

Thanks. Helpful. And, was just curious when the server would delete the show automatically if I selected it to keep only “unwatched”.

IIRC there’s a check that runs every 3-4 hours which goes through and deletes expired recordings.

Suppose I'm 50% through the program, and I fast forward to the end. Will this get marked as watched?

Yes. It is based upon where the playback position was when you exited the program. If the playback position is within the final 5%, it is marked as "Watched".
